Fighting Inflation: How These Last Minute Stimulus Payments Are Easing the Holiday Burden

With inflation driving up costs on everything from groceries to gifts, many Americans are feeling the squeeze this holiday season.

Fortunately, state-level stimulus payments are stepping in to offer relief—and they’re doing more than just helping families.

These payments play a critical role in countering the pressures of inflation and ensuring a brighter, more stable holiday for all.

Mesa County, Colorado: Inflation Relief Through TABOR

Mesa County, Colorado, is setting an example of how targeted financial relief can offset the effects of rising prices.

Thanks to the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR), the county is refunding $11.4 million in excess government revenue directly to taxpayers.

This year, every registered voter aged 18 and older as of November 25, 2024, is receiving a $100 refund.

These checks began mailing out during the week of December 16, 2024.

For residents, this refund isn’t just extra spending money—it’s a tool to help manage the higher costs of essentials like food, utilities, and gas.

By putting money back in the hands of consumers, TABOR refunds stimulate local economies while providing immediate relief.

Alaska’s Permanent Fund Dividend: A Shield Against Rising Costs

In Alaska, the Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) program is helping families navigate the challenges of inflation.

The PFD distributes a share of the state’s oil and natural resource revenues directly to residents.

This year, Alaskans classified as “Eligible-Not Paid” for their 2024 (and earlier) applications will receive $1,312 on December 19, 2024. Over 600,000 residents will benefit, and an additional payment is scheduled for January 16, 2025, for those still listed as “Eligible-Unpaid” by January 8, 2025.

These payments are vital for Alaskans grappling with higher living expenses.

Whether used to cover heating bills, rising grocery costs, or other essentials, the PFD provides immediate economic support while empowering households to weather inflation’s impact.

How Stimulus Payments Help Fight Inflation

Stimulus payments don’t just benefit individuals—they have a ripple effect on the broader economy:

  1. Boosting Local Spending: When families use these payments for essentials or holiday shopping, it injects money directly into local businesses.
  2. Offsetting Rising Costs: With prices climbing across the board, these payments help balance household budgets and reduce financial strain.
  3. Maintaining Economic Confidence: By providing tangible relief, these programs ensure consumers remain active participants in the economy, even during tough times
