New York’s $500 Inflation Relief Refund: When Will Payments Arrive?

As inflation continues to strain household budgets, New York’s proposed $500 inflation relief refund could provide much-needed financial relief.

The rebate, initially announced by Governor Kathy Hochul, aims to return excess sales tax revenue to middle-class families hit hardest by rising living costs.

Who Qualifies for the Inflation Relief Refund?

The proposed refund targets 8.6 million taxpayers across the state:

  • Families earning under $300,000 per year – Eligible for $500.
  • Individual taxpayers earning under $150,000 per year – Eligible for $300.

This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to offset the financial burden caused by inflation and put money back into the pockets of New Yorkers.

When Will Payments Be Sent?

Initially expected in early 2025, the refunds are now delayed until fall 2025, pending final approval from the New York State Legislature.

The funds will be distributed automatically to eligible taxpayers based on their most recent tax returns.

How to Ensure You Receive the Payment

To qualify for the refund once approved, residents must file their 2024 tax returns on time.
